QuantOmics
2026–2032
Overview
QuantOmics is Canada’s first integrated training pipeline bridging quantum nanotechnology, genomic data science, and AI-driven medicine. Funded through NSERC CREATE, the program trains professionals who can operate across three interconnected domains simultaneously:
- Quantum Probe Design & Fabrication — developing ultra-sensitive biosensors using diamond NV-center probes, quantum dots, and spin-based magnetometry to detect biomarkers at extremely low concentrations
- Genomics Signal Integration — converting quantum sensor data into multi-omic datasets through nanopore sequencing, methylation mapping, and workflow integration
- AI-Powered Therapeutic Design — building predictive models for personalized therapeutics, including generative drug design and neoantigen prediction
Over six years, the program will train 93 highly qualified personnel at the undergraduate, graduate, and postdoctoral levels across partner universities including Toronto Metropolitan University, McGill, Queen’s, Université Laval, University of Saskatchewan, and University of Toronto.
Collaborators
Co-applicants: Brenda Andrews, Jacques Corbeil, Stefania Impellizzeri, Sara Mahshid, Anna Panchenko, Steven Rayan, Harry Ruda, Amber Simpson, Brett Trost, and Virgilio Valente — five of whom hold Canada Research Chairs. Industry partners include C2MI, Novavax, and Ontario Genomics.
